Businessman jailed 3 months for buying stolen vehicle

AN Area Court sitting in Jos on Tuesday sentenced a 36-year old  businessman, Paul Bitrus to three months imprisonment for buying a stolen vehicle.

The panel of two magistrates, Adam Sadiq and Hyacinth Dolnaan who sentenced Bitrus after he pleaded guilty, however gave him an option of N25,000 fine.

They also ordered that the stolen vehicle be  returned to the owner.

They said the judgment would serve as deterrent to those who would want to indulge in such criminal acts.

Earlier, the  Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Gokwat told the court that the case was reported on Nov. 15, 2022 at the Anglo-Jos Police station by one Onyekwere Churchill of Halogen Security Company attached to Nasco Foods.

The prosecutor said  that the convict bought the vehicle for N18million one Tardoo Tegbenda who stole the said vehicle.

The police  said the offence is punishable under the provisions of section 302 of the Penal Code Law.(NAN)
