GOV. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State cast his vote in his country home, Owo, Owo Local Government, at 10:57 a.m., after thE initial challenge with the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) which initially failed to recognise him.
Akeredolu arrived at his Ward 5 Unit 6, Ijebu Owo 2 Polling Centre at about 10:47a.m., to exercise his franchise
After the initial technical hitch of the BVAS which lasted for about eight minutes, Akeredolu was accredited at exactly 10:57a.m., and he immediately cast his vote.
Speaking with journalists after casting his votes, the governor said he was not too impressed with the turnout of voters.
He, however, expressed optimism that more voters will come out before voting ends.
“I am not too impressed yet with the turnout but I expect that many people will come out later. But we used to be larger than this, I have always voted here.
“I know that people are going to come out. We are more and it’s too early in the day now. I believe everybody will come out at their own convenient time. Many people will still come and vote,” he said.
The governor said INEC had done well and displayed its independence.
Akeredolu said the election was not an unusual one, and it was the regular cycle of four years, calling it “a four year ritual”.
“But for me, INEC has displayed their Independence, at least at this polling booth. I don’t know what is happening in other places, but they have been cautious,” the governor said.
