Bye-election: LASIEC pledges hitch-free conduct

THE Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Friday, assured residents of the state that it would ensure a hitch-free conduct of the council bye-election scheduled for Saturday.

LASIEC’s Chairman Justice Ayotunde Phillips gave the assurance in a statement in Lagos.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the bye-election becomes necessary due to the death of the councillors representing some Wards in Agege Local Government Areas of the state.

The Wards are; Ward B (Ogunlokun),Oshodi and Ward B(Dopemu).

Phillips also expressed the determination of the commission “to ensure that the bar of excellence in electoral administration and management is further raised through the conduct of the bye-elections.’’

Phillips appealed to eligible, registered voters in the affected wards to actively participate in the electoral process by coming emasse to vote for the candidates of their choice.

She assured the residents in the affected areas of their safety, saying that the commission had received assurances from security agencies of their preparedness to ensure order, during the elections.

Phillips said a “Situation Room” would be set up at the headquarters of LASIEC to facilitate effective communication between the commission and election officials on the field.
