THE Calabar Port has received another large vessel, ‘MV Yong Jin’, laden with 11,800 metric tons of general cargo comprising; heavy-duty trucks, buses, excavators, trucks and pipes.
The Manager of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Calabar Port, Mr Festus Olumati, said this while addressing newsmen in Calabar on Wednesday.
He said that the port was viable and open for business at all times.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in July, the port received a vessel laden with 204 heavy-duty trucks and other containers.
Olumati said that the vessel arrived Calabar Port from China on Sept. 24 with 11,800 metric tons of general cargo, comprising 107 heavy-duty trucks, buses, pipes among others.
“The length of the vessel is 190 meters; this is the second largest vessel we are receiving within the past three months.
“This goes to tell us that Calabar Port is viable and working. In line with our mandate, we are committed to making sure that this port is working effectively.
“The berthing of the vessel has productively engaged many Cross River residents and others.
“The number of young people working here right now is quite high,” he said.
The manager said that the port had a multiplier effect on the economy of the state, as the Calabar Port was viable and working.
The Captain of the vessel, Mr Jian Xin, while narrating his experience said that he brought in the vessel from China Shipping Company through a legal channel.
Xin said; “the channel through which he came into Nigeria is in order.’’(NAN)
