CAMBODIA’S annual Women Run 10km returned here on Wednesday to celebrate International Women’s Day after a hiatus in the last two years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a sports official said.

National Olympic Committee of Cambodia Secretary-General, Vath Chamroeun said the event with 10km and 4km categories, was taken part by more than 1,500 local and foreign runners.

“The Women Run 10km is not only to celebrate International Women’s Day but also to promote healthy living, encouraging women to play sports,’’ he told reporters.

“This event will also help promote our ‘One person, One sport’ campaign.’’

The race started and ended at Botumvotey Pagoda Park, south of the Royal Palace in Phnom Penh.

Chamroeun said the event was attended by both men and women, but only women received finishers’ medals.

The Women’s Run 10km was held just two months prior to Cambodia’s hosting of the 32nd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games, which is scheduled for May 5 to 17. (Xinhua/NAN)
