CAMBODIA has received two prestigious awards, Asia’s Leading Culture Destination 2022 and Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination 2022, from the World Travel Awards.
The country’s Ministry of Tourism said in a press statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the awards came after some two million tourists around the world voted for Cambodia as a cultural tourism destination and a leading youth tourism destination in Asia in 2022.
Thong Rathasak, Director General, Tourism Development and International Cooperation, received the two awards during the International Travel Expo held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
“Cambodia has seen a 580 per cent rise in the number of international tourists to nearly one million during the first eight months of 2022,” Rathasak said in the statement.
Tourism is one of the four pillars supporting Cambodia’s economy.
In the pre-pandemic era, the kingdom welcomed 6.6 million international tourists in 2019, generating 4.92 billion U.S. dollars in revenue, according to the tourism ministry. (Xinhua/NAN)
