THE Governorship Candidate for the  African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abia, Bishop Sunday Ndukwo, has said that any political candidate without visible investment at home has no business being in the race.

Ndukwo said this on Thursday in Umuahia at the launch of the party’s state-wide campaign.

Ndukwo, who is the President of Vision Africa Radio, with headquarters in Umuahia, said that he had over N40 billion investments in the state.

The governorship candidate said that at least 800,000 persons had benefited from his medical outreach that had run in the state for many years.

He promised to create jobs for the youths, beginning with the revival of the moribund Nsulu Games Village which had the capacity to employ at least 10,000 workers.

He also said that he would establish a sports academy with modern facilities if elected.

Ndukwo promised that his administration would tackle insecurity, particularly kidnapping, banditry and other violent crimes.

The governorship hopeful gave assurance that under his watch, no part of the state would be left in the hands of hoodlums.

He said that he would run a transparent administration and provide the enabling environment to attract local and foreign investors.

“Abia will become an investment haven, if you run a transparent government.

“Once I become governor, our children that live overseas would return home to invest.

“Also, with me as governor, international donor agencies would have confidence to assist Abia with grants for development,” Ndukwo said.

He extolled the contributions of the founding fathers of the state, saying that he would strive to add value to their legacies.

“I will leverage their achievements to achieve greater milestone in our journey to greatness.

“Like our previous leaders, I am also a businessman, technocrat and academician but I have an edge over them because I am a clergyman.

“And because Abia is God’s own state, this is the time to hand it over to a man of God,” Ndukwo said.

In a brief remark, the party’s National Chairman, Chief Ralph Nwosu, said that the party had the hope to produce its first governor from Abia in 2023.

Nwosu was represented at the event by the National Vice Chairman in charge of INEC Matters, Chief Anayo Arinze.

He admonished the party chieftains and supporters to work hard to win the election for themselves.

“We are not working for Sunday but ourselves because his children are not the only ones attending schools in Abia.

“Payment of salaries by any administration is not an achievement.

It is a statutory responsibility of any responsible government.

“Ndukwo is not going to make salary payment his promise. He is going to work for the development of the state.

“At the end of his administration, his achievements will overshadow that of those that had ruled the state,” he said.

Arinze dismissed the rumour that Nwosu had been removed as the party’s national chairman.

He said, “Whatever you heard about the removal of the  national chairman is coming from the pit of hell.

“The membership of our National Executive Committee is intact.”

Highlights of the event included the presentation of the party’s flags to the governorship as well as state and National Assembly candidates.

Solidarity messages were also delivered by different support groups, including the state chapter of the Association of Persons with Disabilities, youth and women bodies, amongst  others.

They assured the governorship candidate of victory, promising to fully mobilise the electorate for his success at the poll. (NAN)
