THE Domestic Airport Cargo Agents Association (DACAA) has praised Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Ltd., operator of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal II (MMA2), for its proposed cold storage system for perishable cargos.

The Chairman, Board of Trustees of DACAA, Mr Ikpe Nkanang, made the commendations on Thursday in Lagos.

Nkanang told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the technology would help to preserve perishable cargoes that could not meet up with flight schedules.

He said that beyond MMA2, the Federal Airlines Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), was initiating cold storage at other domestic airports across the country.

“It is a welcome development. It will help in the preservation of perishable items that cannot meet up with flight schedules.

“It will increase revenue for FAAN and Bi-Courtney and improve our services.

“Storage facilities at terminals are components of the cargo industry,” he said.

On the benefits of air cargo, Nkanang said that advantages of air transport outweighed that of road transport

He said that air cargo  was fast, hygienic, comparably affordable and more secure.

NAN reports that Bi-Courtney  recently announced that it would be launching its digital cold storage system for perishable cargoes.

The MMA2 operator, through its Head of Aeronautical and Cargo Services, Mr Remi Jibodu, disclosed that the new storage system aimed to meet the growing need to preserve perishable cargo passing through airports within Nigeria.

Also, the FAAN Managing Director, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, had also promised to support the Plateau State Government to set up a cargo terminal, considering the state’s agricultural viability.

Kuku promised that some major air cargo infrastructure would be put in place to ensure smooth operations. (NAN)
