Carpenter docked for allegedly swindling customer

A 30-year old carpenter, Paul Chibueze, on Wednesday appeared before a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja, for allegedly cheating client of N310, 000.

The police charged the defendant, who resides at Jikwoyi area of karu with criminal breach of trust, cheating and criminal misappropriation.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Prosecution Counsel, Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in 2021.

Osho told the court that the complainant entrusted the sum of N310, 000 to the defendant to help him produce a set of furniture to be delivered within a month.

The prosecutor said with the intent to cheat, the defendant converted the money to his use and failed to deliver the job.

The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 312, 322 and 309 of the Penal Code.

The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N300, 000 with two reasonable sureties in like sum.

Mayana ordered that the sureties must provide a valid Identification card, a certified statement of account and address verified by court staff.

The judge adjourned the case until June 7, for hearing. (NAN)
