Carpenter docked over alleged N25,000 fraud

A 35-year-old carpenter, Adeyeni Omoleyin, on Monday appeared before an Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Oyo for allegedly defrauding his customer of N25,000.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Abdullahi Emmanuel, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Oct. 29 at Omi-Okun, Ondo Road, Ile-Ife.
Emmanuel said that the defendant fraudulently collected N25, 000 from one Adeolu Mayowa on the pretence that he would make four stools and a table for him, but which he failed to do.
According to him, the offence contravened Sections 390(9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun.
The defendant, who was not represented in court, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of fraud and stealing. Magistrate A. A. Adebayo granted N25, 000 bail to the defendant with one surety in like sum.
Adebayo directed that the surety must swear to an affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction, address to be verified by the prosecutor as well as produce three recent passport photographs. The case was adjourned until Dec. 21 for hearing. (NAN)
