MOST Rev. Mathew Audu, the Catholic Archbishop of Jos has inaugurated some newly completed projects at the St. John Vianney Minor Seminary, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau.
Inaugurating the projects, Audu commended the rector, staff and students of the institution for the giant strides.
The archbishop, who promised that the church would continue to provide quality education, added that its schools would not relent in instilling good morals on students and pupils across it schools.
Audu, however, appealed to goverment to return all missionary schools to the originals owners.
”While we call on government to invest more on the education of our children, we want to strongly appeal that goverment should return all missionary schools to us the original owners”, he appealed.
Earlier, Rev. Fr. Gideon Pwakim, the Rector of the seminary, said that the completed facilities included a block of four classrooms and two offices as well as a block of hostels.
He said that funds for the projects largely came from the archdiocese, the old students association of the school, Parents Teachers Association and spirited individuals.
He said that the block of classrooms was named after Rev. Fr. Martin Macneerly (SMA), the first rector of institution, while the hostel is named after the St. Raphael, the Archangel.
On her part, Lady Rose Agur, the Education Secretary of the archdiocese, said that the new facilities would enhance teaching and learning in the school.
She noted that physical and social environment played key roles toward improved teaching and learning, particularly that the students are young people.
”When the environment is clean and conducive, it entices the students and when they are comfortable, they can assimilate better.
”So, this will positively improve learning in this school in great deal”, she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the archbishop also laid foundation for the construction of a modern library in the seminary.(NAN)
