THE Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has announced its first plenary in 2023 scheduled from February 11 to 17.

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN, said in a statement signed by Rev. Fr. Zacharia N. Samjumi and Rev. Fr. Michael N Umoh, its Secretary General and National Director, Social Communication respectively that due to the special position the Bishops occupy and the public trust reposed in them, they are open to individuals, organisations who seek their attention, prayer and advice, thus “many individuals, organisations and political parties have requested audience with the Bishops as they gather during their annual plenary assembly”.

The CSN stated unequivocally that no political party or organisation has made any donation to the forthcoming CBCN plenary meeting, nor would the Bishops welcome such donations.

The statement therefore stated that the Bishops’ primary duty and concern in the forthcoming elections remain to give guidance and pray that there is a level playing field for all political bodies; and that the future of the common man is not compromised through state collusion.

The Catholic Bishops have incontrovertible remained a clear and respectable voice and a reliable moral compass to all men and women of goodwill, who desire the good and progress of Nigeria.
