The Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki has disclaimed the wedding of a purpoted Rev. Fr. Jude Obasi, who is alleged to be a native of Afikpo North LGA, and was also alleged to have recently gotten married to his lover on Saturday, May 25 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Abakaliki.

The Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr Mathew Uzoma Opoke issued the disclaimer on Monday, a copy of it was obtained by Realnews.

He said that the attention of the Diocese has been drawn to a publication which had gone viral on social media alleging the marriage stated above.

According to Fr. Opoke, there is no one who goes by the name Rev. Fr Jude Obasi among the priests of the catholic Diocese of Abakaliki.

He said that the face of the person in the publication does not resemble the face of any priests of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki.

The chancellor affirmed that Afikpo North LGA has no indigenous priest, incardinated anywhere in the world, that goes by the name, Jude Obasi.

He said that there is no such place as St. Mary’s Catholic Church Abakaliki in the diocese.

He said that no event took place on the purported date that could be alluded to a priest or an ex-priest getting married.

“It goes without saying that the publication which lacks fundamentum in re, is fake.

“It was possibly fermented by a blogger who wants to gain much traffic to its social media handle ahead of the expected monitisation of Meta (facebook) pages in Nigeria in the coming month. Please disregard,” the diocesan chancellor said.
