THE Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, through the office of the special investigator has invited Titans Trust Bank, TTB, and partners for investigation and defence of ownership shares.
According to a communique signed by its head of operation, DCP Eloho Opkoziakpo, dated Sunday, December 24, 2023, the office of special investigator is inviting Babatunde Lemo, Chairman of Titans Trust Bank to avail himself along Cornelius Vink and Raul Savara to meet with by 2pm of December 28, 2023, at the department of force intelligence.
The team of special investigators is asking Lemo to refer to an earlier discussion with the special investigator in regards to the offensive defence issued on Punch Newspaper on behalf of TTB, as the chairman.
According to the publication in the newspaper, both Cornelius Vink and Raul Savara were referred to as prominent global entrepreneurs, having thriving businesses in Nigeria.
Lemo had in an email directed that both men be invited to provide clarification on their share ownership and were given seven days to provide such clarifications.
The special investigator, In the communique express surprise that instead of honouring the invitation and providing the document, it received a letter from the company secretary of Union Bank, Somuyiwa Sonubi, dated December 1, 2023, informing the special investigator that Cornelius Vink is out of the company on medical grounds, and that both Vink and Savara would be available as soon as they are in Nigeria, which will be soon.
On that note, the special investigation has given up until December 28, 2023 for the bank to report alongside Cornelius Vink and Raul Savara at the department of special intelligence, by 2pm local time.
That the intelligence department has warned that failure of the bank alongside the other parties to attend the meeting and provide/defend the requested documents/information, will be construed that they have decided to forfeit their purported shares at TTB and Union Bank of Nigeria.
That should the TTB refuse to attend the meeting to provide additional statement to the earlier one made in August 2023, will also be construed that they misled the Nigerian public with their reaction in a section in Punch Newspapers which has gained wide publicity in both electronic and print media.
