THE Centre for Media, Policy and Accountability (CMPA) is to partner with CLEEN Foundation in

implementing the Nigeria Anti-Corruption Performance Public Reporting (NAPPR) project funded by MacArthur Foundation.

The Director of Communications, Outreach and Advocacy, Ibrahim Yusuf, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

Yusuf explained that during an advocacy visit to CLEEN Foundation office, the two organisations had agreed to work on the

Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) in a bid to prevent corrupt practices.

He quoted the Executive Director, CMPA Dr Suleiman Amu, as saying that the objectives of the project were revised to avoid duplication of responsibilities carried out by other Anti-Corruption Agencies (ACAs).

”ACAs do anti-corruption works focusing on fighting corruption in Nigeria. Researchers also believe that ACAs are engaged in the prevention of corruption and making policies to prevent or reduce corruption through detections and sanctions.

”But beyond this, CMPA observed, that what the ACAs think they are doing and what the public thinks they are doing is quite different.

”Based on this, CMPA identified a gap on how anti-corruption activities are reported by the ACAs and the public,” he said.

”NAPPR project aims to address this gap by designing a harmonised template for reporting anti-corruption by all the ACAs, civil society organisations and media organisations in Nigeria,”  he added.

Responding, the Chief Executive Officer of CLEEN Foundation, Gad Peter said that the foundation was involved in monitoring corruption cases in courts, recovery of looted monies and judicious utilisation of the money

recovered.

”As an organisation working in the area of anti-corruption, I want to assure you of our support throughout the implementation phase of the project,” he said.

Others who spoke described the project as timely and commended CMPA for integrating the media and training components.

Recall that CMPA is an independent non-profit organisation with focus on anti-corruption, research, public policy analysis, transparency and accountability to strengthen social, economic and democratic governance in the country. (NAN)
