THE Chairman, Board of Electoral Institue, Prof. Abdullahi Abdu Zuru, has urged stakeholders in the Continuous Voters Registration (CVR) exercise scheduled for Edo and Ondo states to be respectful, courteous and polite in the discharge of their duties during the exercise.

Zuru gave the charge in a remark at the Training of Trainers (ToT)for CVR in Edo and Ondo States.

He expressed appreciation and gladness for the continued collaboration between the Training Department of TEI with other Departments in the Commission and stakeholders in the actualization of our collective mandate.

He noted that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR)was an exercise meant for the registration of citizens who turned 18 years of age after the last registration exercise or those eligible registrants who for one reason or another could not register in the previous exercises.

He stressed that the CVR also provides opportunity for voters to transfer to most convenient polling Unit and replace damaged or lost Permanent Voters Card (PVC).

“As a result of the above, and in compliance with Section 9 (6) of the Electoral Act, 2022 which permits the Commission to stop registration of voters, updating and revision of the Register of Voters not later than 90 days before any election covered by the Act.

“The Commission has decided to resume the CVR in Edo and Ondo States as part of preparations for the upcoming Off-Cycle Governorship elections scheduled for Saturday 21st September and 16th November, 2024 in the two States, respectively.

“The exercise is scheduled to commence simultaneously in the two States from Monday 27th May to Wednesday 5th June, 2024 from 9.00am to 3.00pm daily including weekends.

It is vital to note that, the CVR will be conducted in-person at Ward levels and INEC State office Headquarters in Binin and Akure only. There will be on-line pre-registration of voters in this exercise.

“Therefore, there will be 192 Ward registration centers in Edo State and 203 Ward registration centers in Ondo State, in addition to the State offices in Benin city and Akure making it a total of 397 walk-in registration centers in the two states for citizens to go and register physically.

Another point to note is that, the uncollected Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) will be made available for collection during the CVR,” Zuru said.

Speaking to the trainers, Zuru said: “As trainers in INEC State offices, Electoral Institute and Commission Headquarters, it is now your duty to train the CVR Officials who play a vital role in the process.

“By virtue of this ToT, it is expected of you to cascade the training to Registration officials that will be engaged by the Commission. The way they discharge their duties will affect the confidence of the citizens who are participating in the process.

“They are expected be courteous, polite and to treat all persons equally and with respect.

“Their actions and activities should also be characterized by the highest professional standards. It is imperative that appropriate training delivery both in content and in process be employed to guarantee a successful CVR exercise.

“Therefore, I urge you earnestly to give this ToT the attention and seriousness it deserves so that we can achieve a successful outing in the field.”

He said that he would count on the sheer determination, resilience and competence displayed by in previous assignments to achieve the goals of the Commission and the country at large.
