TUAREG rebellion and farmers-herders crisis are factors contributing to the insecurity in the Sahel region, Dr Mohamed Chambas, the African Union Chief Mediator on Sudan, has said.

He stated this on Thursday in Abuja while delivering a paper at the First Annual International Lecture of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

The 2012 Tuareg rebellion was the early phase of the Mali War, from January to April 2012, a war waged against the Malian government by rebels with the goal of attaining independence for the northern region of Mali, known as Azawad.

The theme of the lecture is “Insecurity in the Sahel (2008-2024), Dissecting Nigeria’s Challenges-Genesis, Impacts and Options”. (NAN)
