STEPHANIE Grisham, United States First Lady Melania Trump’s chief of staff, has resigned  effective immediately.

Grisham a long time associate of Melania, was also a former White House spokeswoman.

She said it had been an honour to serve the Trump administration and gave no reasons for her unexpected move.

It is not clear whether her resignation had to do with the storming of the Capitol by supporters of outgoing president Donald Trump on Wednesday.

Realnews reports that President Trump has consistently refused to recognise Joseph Biden as the president-elect alleging that the presidential election in November 2020 was marked with fraud. Several courts in the United States including the Supreme Court dismissed all the cases Trump instituted to challenge the election results. – dpa/NAN
