A Bauchi-based Non-Governmental Organization ‘Child is Gold’ Foundation on Wednesday distributed diapers to some pregnant women in the state to mark this year’s  International Children’s Day.

The Field Officer of the foundation, Mr. Ishiaya Nuhu,  said the gesture was to remind women of the health rights of the children.

According to him, mothers were selected as targeted beneficiaries in appreciation of their commitment to child development in the state.

Nuhu said that during the distribution of the items, which took place at the Yelwa Domiciliary PHC, women were sensitised on how to take proper care of their children.

“The NGO gave out diapers to over 50 pregnant women and we also sensitized them on the health rights of children.

“This includes personal hygiene, proper use of diapers and discipline to our leaders of tomorrow,” he said.

Speaking to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) after the occasion, some beneficiaries, Mrs. Fatima Ismail and Mrs. Hajara Maiwada, thanked the organisation for the assistance.

They said the information provided on regular changing of diapers, hygiene, and exclusive breastfeeding, would help them immensely.(NAN)
