CHINA offered some of its cuisines to the world on Tuesday in Lagos as the United Nations World Tourism Organisation’s (UNWTO) conference enters its second day.

On offer were Kung Pao chicken, sweet and sour pork, dumpling, spring rolls, fried rice and Chow Mein at an exhibition adjoining the conference.

Dr Eric Ni, Chairman, Chinese Industrial and Commercial Enterprises Association who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday said the cuisines were deliberately selected to exhibit part of Chinese culture.

This, he said, was to create awareness about the delicacies.

“Some of our cultural materials we exhibited today are the Chinese cuisines, which we are giving out to visitors at the exhibition.

“We have on display Kung Pao chicken, sweet and sour pork, dumpling, spring rolls, fried rice and Chow Mein.

“Dumpling is served during celebrations in China; so we are celebrating with the world for a beautiful global conference such as this that will further unite us.

“Some of these foods are balanced with protein and carbohydrates, while some are very low in sugar, refined carbs and high fat, which enable bodies to easily recognise when they get satisfied,’’ he said.

Eric reiterated the Chinese community’s commitment to supporting Nigerians in the area of education, sports and entertainment.

“Just like we have been doing, we will continue to support low-income families and donate to the orphanages.

“Our regular scholarships to students of both public and private schools will also continue.

“We just completed the total renovation of FOA Primary School 1 to School 3 in Okokomaiko, Ojo Local Government Area of Lagos State which will be commissioned soon,’’ he said.

NAN reports that some organisations like MTN, Access Bank, Lagos Continental Hotel, and the National Institute for Hospitality and Tourism also displayed products at the exhibition.

The conference, holding at the newly-renovated National Arts Theatre complex in Lagos has: “Linking tourism, culture and creative industries’’ as its theme. (NAN)
