CHINA is set to register the highest acrylonitrile capacity additions in Asia contributing about 90% of the region’s capacity additions by 2026, says GlobalData, a leading data and analytics company.

GlobalData’s latest report, ‘Acrylonitrile Industry Installed Capacity and Capital Expenditure (CapEx) Forecast by Region and Countries including details of All Active Plants, Planned and Announced Projects, 2022-2026’ reveals that China leads with the largest capacity additions, with a capacity of 2.23 million tonnes per annum (mtpa) from ten planned projects.

A growing demand for acrylonitrile plastics, resin, fibers, and rubbers in end-use industries such as automotive and construction will lead to an increase in demand for acrylonitrile in the country.

Nivedita RoyOil and Gas Analyst at GlobalDataComments: “In China, the main capacity addition would be from five planned projects consisting of Hengli Petrochemical New Material Dalian Acrylonitrile Plant, Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Lianyungang Acrylonitrile Plant 2, Jiangsu Sailboat Petrochemical Lianyungang Acrylonitrile Plant 3, Jinneng Science & Technology Company Qingdao Acrylonitrile Plant, and Shandong Yulong Petrochemical Longkou Acrylonitrile Plant, each with a capacity of 0.26 mtpa.”

Jiangsu Shenghong Group Co Ltd leads among the key companies in China in terms of capacity additions from two planned acrylonitrile projects by 2026. The company tops the list with an estimated capacity addition of 0.52 mtpa. China National Offshore Oil Corp follows next, with a capacity addition of 0.40 mtpa from two planned projects.
