The Chinese Women Association in Nigeria, under the auspices of the “China-Africa People-to-Friendship Action’’, is to donate items worth N12 million to persons with visual impairment in Lagos.
The association’s president, Mrs Zhou Jun, who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Tuesday, said that the donation would be made by the Consul-General of China in Lagos, on behalf of the association.
Zhou said that the donation was being made to the Bethesda Home for the Blind in Surulere, Lagos.
Zhou told NAN that the consulate and the association had been supporting other orphanages and vulnerable persons in various communities in Lagos since 2016.
“On Saturday, Nov. 17, the Chinese Women Association in
Nigeria would be donating items worth N12million to the Bethesda Home for the Blind in Surulere, Lagos.
“This project is one of the “China-Africa People-to-People Friendship Actions’’, being funded by the Consulate of China in Lagos and is implemented by the Chinese Women Association.
“We have before now donated whatever each Orphanage or Home needed to them. Chinese companies have been very supportive by providing us with these items,’’ she said.
According to her, the “China-Africa People-to-People Friendship
Actions’’, carries out some annual activities every year to promote friendship between China and Africa’’.
She said that the activities were meant to promote the integration of Chinese associations with the local community, and to also enhance the development of education, culture, and healthcare delivery.
The president listed the items to be donated to include generators, refrigerators, musical instruments, bags, drums, chairs and tables, cooking utensils, tissues, bedsheets, and digital voice recorders.
Zhou, who said that about 12 different projects had been implemented by the association since 2016, added that the gesture was to promote more friendly and development relations between Nigeria and China.
“China and Nigeria are too friendly countries, and we believe in the survival and development of Nigeria and Nigerians.
“These donations are meant to assist orphanages and vulnerable groups in our host communities.
“We, as a Chinese community in Lagos, will continue to show our love and obligations to orphanages, the blind and other disadvantaged persons,’’ she added. (NAN)
