NIGERIA’S First Olympics Gold Medallist, Chioma Ajuwa says she has  packaged programmes to encourage the Nigerian girl child in sports.

She disclosed this in  an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN) at the 3rd Making of Champions Grand Prix hosted at the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos.

Ajuwa said the events were part of activities lined up to mark  her Silver Jubilee anniversary of winning Olympics Gold Medal, stressing that eight states would  be involved in events taking place between April 2021 and August 20, 2021.

According to her, the events are created to give back to society,  improve the lives of the girl child in Nigeria, stressing that the girl  child could  do many things if encouraged.

The gold medalist, however, said she was not happy that 25 years after winning the first Olympics gold medal for Nigeria, the government had yet to celebrate it, rather, she was the one doing it herself.

“On my part, I am trying my best to improve athletic activities in Nigeria. This formed part of the events lined up for the celebration of my 25 year anniversary as first Olympics Gold Medallist in Nigeria.

“The Silver Jubilee of Nigeria winning its  first Olympics Gold Medal would have been celebrated by the sports sector  but rather, I am the one doing the things myself.

“I have lined up so many events, especially about the girl-  child.

“I know that the girl -child is strong and can make it to any level if supported. We are going to eight states to harness potentials, talents that will represent Nigeria in future.

“So, I am trying to project the girl – child ability to do anything successfully. The grand finale will take place in Imo on Aug. 20,  where I will launch my stadium,” she said.
