WORLD Health Organisation (WHO) says it is coordinating the control of Cholera outbreak in Adamawa and has embarked on intensive house-to-house search for new cases in Mubi town.
A WHO Consultant, Dr Jerry Pantuvo, told stakeholders at Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) in Mubi on Tuesday, that officials engaged in the search visited 444 houses in Mubi North and Mubi South on Tuesday alone, where five cases were identified.
He said that the new cases were rushed to Cholera Treatment Centre (CTC) at the General Hospital.
The added that the officials also visited 252 houses in Mubi South and 192 houses in Mubi North, noting that during the visits, residents were sensitised about the disease and how to take care of themselves and some affected areas disinfected.
Pantuvo explained that 40 officials were involved in the search, which he said had been effective in containing the outbreak.
The Incident Manager of the EOC, Mr Kabiru Sadiq, said the search had assisted in early detection and had reduced the fatality rate of the outbreak from the initial 17 per cent to 1.7 per cent.
He added that “the house to house search for cholera patients has assisted a lot and has contributed in enlightening the public on preventive measures.”
Sadiq said since the outbreak in May, a total of 1,079 cases had so far been recorded with 18 deaths. (NAN)
