THE Methodist Church Nigeria, has charged its members and Nigerians to vote for young and upright candidates with good agenda that would make the nation better in the Saturday’s election.
It also urged them to look away from the name of political parties and vote for young persons with ideas that would develop and place the nation on the path of progress.
The Methodist Church Nigeria Conference Secretary, Rt. Rev. Michael Akinwade, gave this charge in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday.
“In order to make sure that we do not continue to deceive the young people by saying; they are the leaders of tomorrow; when will tomorrow come?
“We want them to be part of governance and the government should make sure that they are part of the administration of the country.
“We are encouraging our members to support and vote for any young person, who has the right agenda that will benefit the country,” he said.
Akinwale said that the church was not interested in any party but in young individuals, who would address the nation’s challenges.
He said Nigerians should go to the polls on Saturday and vote according to their conscience.
“They should not sell their conscience; they should not sell their vote. They should make sure that they vote according to their conscience and do everything possible to protect their votes.
“We are not calling for violence, but please protect your votes,” he added.
NAN recalls that the Methodist Prelate, His Eminence, Samuel Uche, had said in August 2018 at an Aba conference that the church would support young and upright Nigerians, aspiring to political leadership. (NAN)
