THE Centre for International Advanced and Professional Studies, CIAPS, has announced that it will hold a brunch and host Samuel Obong, a visually impaired writer and teacher.
According to the statement published on CIAPS website and confirmed by Prof. Anthony Kila, the director of the centre, the event is scheduled to hold on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at the centre’s hall in Ikeja.
It added that the event, which is also a stakeholders meeting for efficient child education with the theme “Getting the Best out of your Schools” will create opportunities for conversation with parents, teachers, school heads as well as Obong, who will showcase his book titled: “Why the Child will Fail.”
The statement disclosed that the programme is an initiative of the CIAPS with input from ECAPS, Cambridge, the Association of Head Teachers UK and PTA UK, and aimed at parents, guardians, teachers and school heads interested in improving student performance, learning experience and relationships between schools and homes.
It also noted that the event is open to the general public and will examine key topics like:
Beyond teachers and students: understanding and managing stakeholders that influence our children’s education;
Teachers’ voices: expectations and frustrations
Dealing with financial stress
Managing performance: assessment and evaluation of our children
Prof. Kila disclosed that the brunch will be graced with music, food and drinks.
He also stated that the event will also promote the doggedness of Samuel Obong, 42-year old Psychology graduate, who also did his postgraduate studies in educational studies at CIAPS.
Commenting on the book, Prof. Kila said it focused on the challenges that confront parents and teachers while training the child.
“It focuses on both parenting and education, since every child has a core reserve of talent, parents and teachers can help the child to discover that core, and nurture the child in it to ensure they are not conflicted.
“That is why you have a lot of adults today who failed to discover their path, because what they were nurtured into is not at the centre of what they are supposed to do. When a child follows his or her core, they will become excellent naturalists and can expand natural intelligence,” he said.
The CIAPS director therefore appealed to well-meaning Nigerians to come out and support such a talent in any way they can.
