Civil servant docked over alleged criminal breach of trust

A 30-year-old civil servant, Umar Mohammad, was, on Tuesday, arraigned before a Kano Magistrates’ Court over alleged criminal breach of trust.
The police charged Mohammad with criminal breach of trust and cheating.
The Prosecutor, Mr Aminu Dandago, informed the court that one Jibrin Mohammed of Fagge Quarters, Kano, reported the matter at Fagge Police Division on Aug.12, 2022.
He said that about three years ago, the defendant collected a brand new Bajaj motorcycle at the rate of N360,000 from the complainant, to be paid instalmentally.
Dandago further stated that the defendant only paid N180,000, adding that all efforts to recover the remaining balance of N180,000 had proved abortive.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene the provision of Sections 312 and 320 of the Penal Code.
Magistrate Farouk Ibrahim-Umar, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000, with one reliable surety in like sum.
He adjourned the matter till Feb. 7 for hearing. (NAN)
