Civil servant in court over alleged N1m fraud

THE police, on Thursday, arraigned a 41-year-old civil servant, Oruma Jacob, before a Wuse Zone 6 Magistrates’ Court for allegedly defrauding a job seeker of N1 million.
Jacob, a staff member of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, is standing trial on a two-count charge of breach of trust and fraud.
The Prosecutor, ASP Peter Ejike, told the court that one Mr John Attah reported the case via a written petition to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Zone 7, Abuja, on Nov. 8, 2020.
Ejike said that the defendant told the complainant that he had two slots for employment at the Federal Fire Service, a representation he knew was false.
He said that the defendant deceived the complainant and fraudulently obtained N1,025,000 and converted the money to his personal use.
Ejike said that the offences contravened Sections 321and 322 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.
The Magistrate, Mr Aminu Eri, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N1 million, with two sureties in like sum.
Eri said that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case till Jan. 26, for mention.NAN
