Civil servant remanded for allegedly defiling girl, 13

AN Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday remanded a 38-year-old civil servant, Sheriff Lawal, at Kirikiri Prisons for allegedly defiling a 13-year-old girl.
Magistrate B.O. Osunsanmi, who refused to take the plea of the accused, said he should be kept behind bars, pending an advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions.
Lawal, at Ifako in Iju, near Lagos, is being tried for defilement.
The Prosecutor, ASP. Ezekiel Ayorinde, told the court that the accused committed the offence on May 19 at his residence.
He said that the accused unlawfully had canal knowledge of his 13-year-old neighbour’s daughter.
“The accused had sexual intercourse with the teenager,” Ayorinde said.
He said that the accused called the girl into his room, removed her clothes and inserted his sex organ into her private part.
“The girl shouted and the accused used her clothes to tie her mouth,’’ the prosecutor said.
The prosecutor said that when the accused was through with having sex with the girl, he threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
“But the girl told her mother, who reported the case and the accused was arrested,” Ayorinde said.
He said the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 137 prescribes life imprisonment for offender.
The case was adjourned until July 9 for mention
