A 24-year-old cleaner, Sarah Godwin, who allegedly stole her employer’s N750,000, on Wednesday, appeared before a Chief Magistrates’ Court, Kaduna.
Godwin, who resides at Barnawa in Kaduna, is facing a charge of stealing.
The offence, according to Prosecutor, Insp. Chidi Leo, was committed on Jan. 20, at Karji in Kaduna.
Leo said that the defendant, who is a cleaner in the complainant’s (Victor Frank) company “Lightspeed Ventures” located at Sabo Area of Kaduna State, stole the sum of N750, 000 when she came to work.
“The defendant opened the complainant’s drawer in the office, stole N750, 000 and disappeared.
“Efforts to locate her were unsuccessful, she was later arrested by the police in Zaria Kaduna,’’ the prosecutor told the court.
The offence, Leo said, contravened Section 217 the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the section stipulates three years imprisonment for offenders.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Mr Ibrahim Emmanuel, granted the defendant N100, 000 bail with one surety in like sum.
He said the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned the case until Feb. 24, for hearing. (NAN)
