CLO begs FG to wade into increase of school fees by unity schools and varsities

THE Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State Branch has made passionate appeal to President Ahmed Bola Tinubu and minister of Education to rescue and safeguard our educational system by directing unity schools and universities authorities not to increase tuition fees in view of current hardship, sufferings in the country as a result of fuel subsidy removal and skyrocketing prizes of goods and services.
The CLO, in a statement made available to Realnews on Tuesday, September 12, said: “It is disheartening that inspite Federal Government clarification that it has not increase school fees yet unity schools and some universities has increased their school fees by over one hundred percent to the detriment of students, parents and educational system.”
The statement tagged “Education is the bedrock of every society” endorsed by Vincent Ezekwueme, chairman and Chidi Mbah, secretary of CLO, respectively, lamented that one pertinent question begging for answer from students, parents and Nigerians is “do the schools authorities increased school fees without authorisation from government”?
Part of the statement reads:
“Pertinently education as best and greatest pathway to greatness should be giving pirority attention, concern and care by both governments and citizenry.
“Government should out of love for students, parents and education directs various schools authorities to revert to normal school fees in other to ameliorates devastating effects of school fees increments, hardships and hyperinflation in country.
“It is irrefutable truth that many parents may withdraw their children from schools due to high cost of school fees.
“Notably education as safeguard for the future should be made accessible, affordable and available to every citizen.
“It is no exaggeration but existential reality that if urgent and immediate steps are not taking by government to rescind the decision to increase school fees many students academics career will be truncated due to paucity of funds.
“President Ahmed Bola Tinubu as the father of the nation should patriotically and magnanimously wipes away tears of students and parents by directing schools authorities to do the needful and revert to former school fees and it will hinders out of school children due to paucity of funds and enhances adequate education of our youths which is greatest and best investment.”
