THE Civil Liberties Organization Anambra State Branch has appealed to Governor Charles Soludo to implement without further delay the

recommendations of Justice Veronica Ngozi Umeh led Anambra State Judicial Panel on Police Brutality and Other Related Matters.

Recall that following the EndSARS protest that escalated in many parts of the country that resulted in loss of lives and properties.

President Buhari directed all state governors to establish Judicial Panel to identify victims of police brutality with the aim of compensating them to assuage their sufferings, agony and loses.

Former Governor Willy Obiano in tandem with the President’s directive established the Anambra State Judicial Panel with Hon Justice Veronica Ngozi Umeh as Chairperson.

The state received 310 petitions, the highest in the country and meticulously with patriotism attended to all the petitioners, according to its merits in tandem with its terms of reference.

The panel submitted its recommendations to former Gov.Willie Obiano few days to the end of his tenure.

According to the report N699,000,000 was recommended as compensations to victims of Police brutality in the state.

It is very unfortunate and despicable that nearly three years after the submission of the Panel Report, the Anambra State is yet to pay compensation to the victims giving credence to assertion of some school of thought that the panel were constituted merely to douse political tension precipitated by #EndSARS protest.

The statement by the group and signed by Vincent Ezekwueme, Chidi Mbah, Hyginus Udensi, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively, called on Gov.Soludo to redeem the image of the State,Panelists by paying adequate compensations to victims of Police brutality or their families for the interest of justice, equity, good conscience and morality.
