CLO condemns alleged killing of businessman by Anti-Touting squad

THE Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State has decried with great disdain and despicable the purported killing of Onitsha-based trader at Patent Pharmaceuticals Market, Head Bridge Onitsha, Arinze Obunadike of Umezulu Umuohi, Okija in Ihiala L.G by Special Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad on Friday, February 16, 2024. 

The statement issued by Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah chairman and secretary tagged “if gold rust, what will happen to iron” lamented that “if the citadel of justice is corrupt what will happen to the body politics”.

Similarly if those saddled with the responsibility of protecting, serving and caring for citizenry become the threat, nightmare and problems to the citizens, the future will be very bleak and unbearable.

It will be recall that the CLO, during the inauguration of Special Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad, advised them to be civil, decorum, law-abiding and patriotic, while discharging their duties.

The CLO equally calls on state government to ensure training and retraining of the personnel to ensure strict compliance with government’s mandate and rules of engagement.

“We calls for discreet and in depth investigations to unravel the circumstances surrounding the dastardly killing of the 34-year old hapless trader and ensure that the perpetrators were brought to book to face the full wrath of the law and serve as deterrent to others.

The government should take very urgent and immediate measures to ensure that this matter will not be swept under the carpet and caution appropriately members of various tasks forces and agencies to forestall future occurrences of this devilish and detestable act.

Pertinently, we pray for eternal repose of his gentle and humble soul and for God to give his family and loved ones the grace and fortitude to bear and endure the irreparable and irreplaceable lose.

An eye witness, Vincent Udeh, described the action of the government officials as the hallmark of man’s inhumanity against man and calls for prompt prosecution of the perpetrators.
