CLO condemns killing of Unizik Lecturer, appeals for unconditional release of Archbishop Godwin Okpala

THE Civil Liberties Organization Anambra State Branch has raised concern over the high crimes rate in Anambra State, especially the recent dastardly and senseless assassination of Senior Lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Osita Chinedu.
In a press statement tagged “we weep and wail for our state” and signed Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah Chairman and Secretary respectively, the group prayed for eternal repose of his gentle soul in paradise and for God to give his amiable wife, children, Nteje Community and loved ones the grace and fortitude to bear and endure the irreparable and irreplaceable loss.
The group complained of high rate of insecurity in the state and called on Christian Association of Nigeria, Anambra State Branch and various Church Leaders to introduce three days of fasting and praying for Anambra in Distress for divine intervention over unprecedented insecurity and spate of lawlessness in the state.
It recalled that during June 12, 1993 political scam due to annulment of June 12 Presidential election won by MKO Abiola of Social Democratic Party, SDP, Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria introduced prayer for Nigeria in Distress, God in his infinite mercy answered their prayers and restored peace and tranquility.
“It is pertinent to note that “Unusual Problems” deserved divine solution hence the inevitable need to seek God’s intervention in this pathetic and hopeless situation.
“Citizens should note that security of lives and properties are collective and collaborative responsibility of both government and the governed.
Government should improve security architecture of the state and take seriously patriotic, corrective, fraternal and constructive criticisms and suggestions by patriotic citizens, which is veritable ingredients of democracy and discard services of sycophants that tell government officials what they wanted to hear not what they need to know and do for the betterment of citizens.
“We passionately appeal to abductors of Archbishop Professor Godwin Okpala to kindly unconditionally release him as respect to God he serves, his old age and health condition.
“It is of prime importance to note that Archbishop Godwin Okpala always stand for what is right, fair, just and laudable. He spoke against rigged 2003 governorship election and illegal impeachment then Governor Peter Obi in 2006, injustices, human rights abuses and human’s inhumanity against man.
“We appeal to the conscience of the abductors to please on compassionate grand considering his patriotic selfless services to God and humanity to release him to save his life as his age deserves peace, tranquility, compassion, care and love as appreciation to his godly and humanitarian disposition,” CLO said.
