THE Anambra State Branch of the Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, has lauded Governor Charles Soludo for listening to the cries and predicament of pupils and parents over the high cost of education in the state.
In a statement issued endorsed by Vincent Ezekwueme, Chairman and Chidi Mbah, Secretary respectively, the group recalled that the CLO had earlier appeal to Gov. Soludo to wade into the exploitation of parents and pupils by the school authorities in the state.
It noted that missionary schools charge outrageous school fees thereby defeating the good intentions of government in handing over schools to them.
“It is incredible, but existential reality that most mission schools charge between N250,000 and N400,000 for new students and JSS3 students in the same school yet government pays salaries of the teachers.
The group suggests that the current gesture of government will have the desired effects if fees are also abolished in the mission schools that the government handed over to the various churches since the government pays the salaries of the teachers and staff of these mission schools.
It added that Gov. Soludo should constitute a monitoring committee to ensure strict compliance to the directive on payment of fees in schools.
The CLO also appealed to Gov Soludo to establish primary and secondary schools in Nkwelle Ezunaka and Nsugbe since there is no public schools in the axis as parents living in the area cannot afford to pay the exorbitant school fees charged by private schools there.
