CLO mourns Prof Nwosu, calls for immortalization
Politics
THE Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, says that it received with disheartening shock and sorrow the death of Professor Humphrey Nwosu, erstwhile Chairman of the National Electoral Commission between 1989 and 1993.
Professor Nwosu, renowned erudite scholar, academician, moralist, patriot and courageous servant leader, was a principled democrat, innovator and man of impeccable character and integrity.
To his credit, he conducted much celebrated June 12, 1993 Presidential election adjudged to be freest, fairest, most credible and generally acceptable election in Nigerian history.
Professor Nwosu will always be remembered by his homegrown creative and innovative political ideology, option A4 and Open Ballot systems that should have been permanent panacea to all electoral challenges bedeviling the country, if sustained by the Nigerian government.
Professor Nwosu always stand for what is right, fair, just and laudable regardless the consequences.
The statement issued by Vincent Ezekwueme, Chidi Mbah and Hyginus Udensi, Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer respectively, reiterated its calls for the federal government to immortalize Professor Nwosu, renaming some national monuments after him, especially renaming INEC Headquarter as Prof. Humphrey Nwosu House.
The greatest and best tribute the political class, INEC officials and Nigerians will pay in his memory is to emulate his patriotism, incorruptibility, social justice and uprightness.
His family and loved ones should take solace on the fact that he lived life worthy of commendation and emulation.
We pray to God to forgive his shortcomings and accept his gentle and humble soul in paradise.
