THE Civil Liberties Organization Anambra State Branch sympathises and identifies with the victims of the recent fire at the Plywood section of the Bridge Head Market, Onitsha in which millions of goods and properties were destroyed.

In a statement, the group appeals to the affected traders to have faith and hope in God, who never abandons His people.

It commended the Nigeria Police Force for their prompt mobilization of officers and men to the scene which led to the restoration of law and order and protection of lives and properties.

The group regretted the inability of the State Fire Service to respond to distress calls during the inferno.

The CLO appealed to Gov. Charles Soludo to overhaul the State Fire Service and make it more functional and alert to its statutory responsibilities.

The group also appealed to the market leaders and citizens to adhere strictly to all safety measures to curtail incessant fire outbreaks in the state.
