CLO urges Anambra 8th Assembly to make impactful laws

THE Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State branch has congratulated the newly inaugurated members of the eight Anambra State State House of Assembly and urged them to always make laws that will have positive impacts on the lives of the citizens, residents and visitors.

In a press statement issued in Awka and signed by Vincent Ezekwueme, Chairman and Chidi Mbah, Secretary respectively themed “let us get it right”, urged the legislators to live above their interest and political affiliations and work towards common good, welfare and wellbeing of the citizens.

As beneficial of the democratic process, they should always hold town hall meetings with their constituents in order to ascertain their problems and predicaments to enable them proffer solutions and tackle them with urgency and immediacy.

They should for the interest of democracy and the state desist from extension of tenures of Local Government Transition Committee Chairmen and passing of budget without adequate scrutiny which was the hallmark of seventh Assembly.

Recall that the Anambra State is the only state in the country that has conducted local government election once since the inception of democracy in 1999.

As products of democratic process, they should as one of their priority project, encourages the governor to commence process towards conduct of free, fair, credible and generally acceptable local government election in Anambra.

It’s benefits is enormous, it will strengthen our democracy, bring governance nearer to the grassroot, creates employments, give citizens sense of belonging and opportunity to contribute towards the development of their areas, ensure comparative advantage and foster unity.

“The legislators should provide democratic dividends and judiciously utilize constituency projects fund for common good and welfare.

“We commend the legislators for their unique wisdom for ensuring equitable sharing of political offices by electing their Speaker from Anambra North as against the last dispensation in which both the governor and speaker came from Anambra North, leaving Anambra South behind which the CLO kicked against it, but it was ignored.
