THE Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, Anambra State branch has appealed to Gov. Charles Soludo, to rehabilitate the deplorable portion of Umuchu-Umunze road to curb incessant violent crimes perpetuated by unknown gunmen.

In a press statement issued to newsmen and endorsed by Vincent Ezekwueme, chairman and Chidi Mbah, Secretary respectively themed “the primary function of government is for protection of lives and properties of her citizens”.

Due to the bad condition of some sections of the road immediately road users slow down to navigate through the bad section of the road, hoodlums usually uses the opportunity to rob, maim, kidnap and sometimes kill travellers plying the road.

Only recently an indigene of Uga, Umeugochukwu Chinaza Chijioke and unidentified lady he was traveling with were shot dead by yet to be identified gunmen.

There is urgent and immediate need to rehabilitate the bad portion of the road to forestall future occurrences of the insensate, barbaric and dastardly act.

We pray for eternal repose of souls of those who lost their lives in various violent crimes in the state and for God to give the bereaved grace to bear and endure the irreparable loss.

The CLO reiterates its earlier appeal to Gov.Soludo to beef up security around Uga, Amesi, Umuchu ,Umunze roads and complete abandoned Ugwuakwu-Ibughubu – Umuchu road in Aguata LGA.

Also worthy of his urgent attention is the Port Harcourt road, Mbonu Ojike, Saniez, Iweka, Uper Iweka, Zik’s Avenue, Ochanja Roundabout and Miss Elems Street, Venn North and South roads all in Onitsha.

It will be recalled that these roads have posed a great danger to road users, residents and visitors.

“We congratulates and appreciates the unprecedented revolution in roads constructions and rehabilitations in the state by Gov.Soludo, especially the much celebrated Akpaka road, Niger street/Haruna road, Ekwulobia Flyover, Ichida-Igboukwu roads and other numerous roads under constructions in the state.

“CLO most passionately reiterates its appeal to the Federal Government to rehabilitate deplorable and dilapidated Onitsha – Owerri road that constitutes great threat to road users as container lorries frequently fall on vehicles plying the roads due to its pathetic and despicable condition.

“Others that deserved urgent and immediate palliative measures pending when permanent solution include 3-3 Nkwelle -Otucha, Nnewi -Uga-Okigwe,Umunya-Awka-Amansea roads,

“There is no doubt in our minds that construction and rehabilitation of decrepit roads will ameliorate the excruciating sufferings of the road users and citizens as well as give them a sense of belonging and rekindle people’s hope in government.

“Finally we seek for spiritual intervention of our religious leaders by appealing to them to order for three-day fasting and prayers for God’s mercy and solutions to the security challenges bedevilng the state and the country,” the group said.
