THE Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, says traditional rulers are very important part of the country’s security architecture.
Yahaya stated this on Tuesday while on a courtesy visit to the District Head of Bargun Ka’oje, Alhaji Mustapha Usman, in Bagudu Local Government Area of Kebbi.
“We thank the traditional rulers for the support they have been giving to us in our spirited efforts to ensure peace and security of this country.
“Traditional rulers are very important in the scheme of things; in the security architecture of this country,” he said.
Yahaya added that the traditional rulers have deep reach in their domain and are aware of what happened around them.
“They play important roles in ensuring peaceful coexistence between people and they can harness information that is relevant and important to the security agencies.
“The criminal elements are not from heaven, they are living within the society in which we live in.
“They can only be dealt with if the general public assist the security agencies by providing them with necessary information on any suspicious character lurking around their neighbourhood,” he said.
The COAS commended the district head for his untiring support to the military.
Yahaya said he was in Ka’oje to inaugurate projects provided to communities in the area by Maj.- Gen. Nasiru Usman-Mukhtar, the Director Procurement in the COAS office.
He said that the projects were meant to enhance civil-military relation.
Responding, the district head commended the military for ensuring relative peace in the state when compared to the security challenges in other parts of the country.
“Your visit to Ka’oje is now the second of its kind to our people.
“The first one was when Gen. Ibrahim Babagida came to commission Tuga bridge in 1990 which resulted in the transformation of the area to a more economic hub as we border Benin and Niger Republics.
“We appreciate you and thank you for this unforgettable visit,” Usman said. (NAN)
