MR James Lalu, the Executive Secretary, National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has lauded the Federal Government for allocating five per cent employment opportunities to Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).

Lalu gave the commendation in a statement signed by the commission’s Head of Public Relations, Mr John Mbanefo and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday.

He explained that the five per cent employment opportunities to the PwDs has been captured in the newly unveiled Public Service Rules.

He urged the PwDs to be patient and support President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s determination to improve their welfare.

“I want to implore everyone to be patient with the new administration being led by President Tinubu, whom we rely upon to utilise our high intellectual capacity.

“We are also hoping that Tinubu will provide us with the right opportunities and working tools to increase our productivity,” he said.

Lalu noted that the lack of assistive technology has continued to undermine the commission’s efforts to provide equipment that ensure inclusion of PwDs in achieving their full potential.

He expressed commitment towards supporting the course of PwDs in Nigeria.

“I must reiterate the commission’s efforts towards donating assistive devices and some other relief materials to persons with disabilities, irrespective of paucity of funds.

“We are making efforts towards mapping out the right policies that will take care of some of these problems.

“However, the government cannot do it alone. Partnerships with relevant organisations and the goodwill of multinational organisations and development partners is very critical,” he said. (NAN)
