THE National Hydro Electric Power Producing Areas Commission (N-HYPPADEC), has urged communities under its jurisdiction to support the ongoing Needs Assessment Exercise and Community Mapping Scheme.
Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq-Yelwa, Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, made the call during his visit to Wuya- Kede in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger on Friday.
He said that the visit is aimed at sensitising the people to the importance of the ongoing exercise in which some communities where left out.
Sadiq-Yelwa said the exercise would assist the commission in knowing the needs, challenges and priorities of the communities.
He said that this would also help the commission with the actual community needs in order to intervene within the available resources.
The managing director said that the commission was optimistic, and ready to always provide short and long term interventions to alleviate the plight of the affected communities.
He also called on the communities to provide the required and relevant information needed for the successful implementation of the exercise.
Sadiq-Yelwa pledge to provide seven hand pump boreholes for seven village heads of communities out of the 51 communities under Wuya-Kede Ward.
He described President Bola Tinubu as a listening leader, who is concerned about the over all development of Nigerians.
“Sequel to the commission’s call, he directed an immediate survey and assessment status of all the dams to ensure they will not pose threat to the host communities, make use for economic and agricultural developments.
He said that due to lack of adequate funds to solve their problems, hence the need to embark on short term intervention with provision of building materials to identified upland.
He said this will ensure their safety and they will be trained on modern farming and fishing for better life.
The benefiting seven villages with hand pump boreholes include; Wuya-Kede, Aligeta, Yijuwu, Dobe, Shekpa, Tsogi and Kpacita.
Earlier, the District Head of Wuya-Kede, Alhaji Musa Abubakar expressed satisfaction with the commission for the visit.
He said his community consisted of 51 villages and advocated for more intervention projects in his domain.
Abubakar said the impact of flooding over the years had resulted to loss of lives, properties, farmlands, animals, schools and health care centers.
He commended the commission’s numerous projects so far and called for its sustainability for the overall development of the communities under the N-HYPPADEC.(NAN)
