JUSTICE Development and Peace Commission (JDPC) of the Archdiocese of Abuja, on Monday, supported refugees and the less-privileged from Cameroon and Congo with relief materials.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the items were presented to the refugees in Abuja by the Executive Director of JDPC, Rev. Fr. Solomon Uko, on behalf of the Archbishop of Abuja Catholic Archdiocese, Ignatius Kaigama.

NAN also reports that Uko presented the items, which included rice, cooking oil and condiments, among others, through a non-governmental organisation (NGO, Endam Home of Hope.

The cleric encouraged the beneficiaries to trust God, knowing that He can turn things around for them.

“Don’t let your present situation dampen your spirit, as God has a reason and He does His things in mysterious ways,” he said.

Uko also cautioned against engaging in human trafficking, prostitution, drug abuse and other unwholesome practices, saying that they demeaned human dignity.

He said that the commission would continue to support and encouraging them to be self-reliant.

“No matter the situation, God will turn things around for you. We decided to give you these items to celebrate Jesus who is the reason for the season,” the cleric said.

In her remarks, Yvonne Andam-Ndaga, a Cameroonian and Founder of Endam Home of Hope, thanked the commission and Nigerians for their support.

“I have been in Nigeria since 2018 after I was accused of being involved in a protest in my country, which led to series of threat to my life.

“I ran to Nigeria for refuge and while here, I decided to set up the NGO as an opportunity to reach out to people and it has been a wonderful experience,” she said.

According to her, the NGO trains and empowers refugees before integrating them into the society.

Andam-Ndaga urged the refugees to shun all forms of immoral acts and that they should not see their present situation as the end of their lives. (NAN)
