Commissioner orders arrest of Children Hawking during School Hours

VICTORIA Chikwelu, Anambra State Commissioner for Social Welfare, Children and Women Affairs, has warned that children found hawking during school hours should be arrested.
Chikwelu gave the warning during media interaction in her office at Awka.
She said that in spite of economic hardships in the country, parents should send their children to school, because, “Anambra operates free education’’.
“The governor has directed that he does not want to see children hawking when they are supposed to be in school.
“Any child seen hawking will be arrested by Social welfare officers of the ministry,” Chikwelu said.
The commissioner also said the ministry had since created temporary shelter at Abagana, where the children would be kept.
