COMMISSIONER for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs in Akwa Ibom, Mr Frank Archibong, has urged youths to intensify advocacy against stigmatisation, rape and gender-based violence in the state.

Archibong stated this when he received the leadership of Akwa Ibom Female Youths on a familiarisation visit to him in Uyo on Thursday.

He said that the leadership of organisation must partner with wife of the governor, Mrs Martha Emmanuel, in championing the advocacy against victimisation and sexual harassment in the society.

“Female youths are strong partners in the actualisation of the Gov. Udom Emmanuel-led administration’s agenda.

“Therefore, I urge you all to rise above political and ethnic sentiment, and ensure positive result in achieving war against sexual harassment and domestic violence against women,” Archibong stated.

He commended the governor and his wife for finding Esta Nta and her executives worthy to be in the leadership of female youths “at this critical time when loyalty and trust are in short supply.

“You must fervently champion the advocacy for moral rectitude and ensure Akwa Ibom is not seen as a morally- decadence state, as exhibited by wife of the governor, Mrs Emmanuel, through her numerous pet projects,” he said.

Earlier, President of the group, Miss Esta Nta, pledged to continue to support the pet project of the governor’s wife, which, she said, was aimed at fighting rape and gender- based violence, among others.

Nta described Archibong, as a “gender-friendly leader who appreciates the role of women in governance.”

She, however, intimated the commissioner of a proposed sensitisation awareness campaign tour to female youths across the 31 local government areas of the state.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the forum observed a minute silence in honour of the late Miss Iniubong Umoren, who was reported to have been kidnapped, raped and murdered on April 29
