KANO State Task force Committee on sanitation has decried the nonchalant attitude of shop owners at the Sabon gari market toward environmental hygiene.

The state Commissioner for Environment, Dr Kabiru Getso, expressed his displeasure on Saturday, while monitoring the monthly environmental sanitation in Kano.

Getso, also the Chairman of the State Task Force Committee on sanitation frowned at shop owner’s inability to provide waste bins.

He commended the effort of a self-help group, Mama Initiative for their selfless service in providing voluntary services during sanitation.

According to him, even though the leadership of the market are trying in the cleaning of the market premises, there is the need to draw their attention to the heaps of refuse at the road sides.

He urged individuals and organisations to support the government in its efforts to sanitise the state.

According to him, Kano has high population with a very high rate of waste generation, so there is the need for collective responsibility.

The Task Force chairman, however, reiterated the commitment of the Gov. Ganduje administration in ensuring a clean and healthy environment at alltimes. (NAN)
