Commonwealth Games Nigeria to organise sports competition for secondary schools

THE Commonwealth Games Nigeria (CGN) plans to organise a Community Grassroots Sports programme for secondary schools in the Amuwo Odofin Area of Lagos on Wednesday, May 3, 2023. The event has been scheduled to hold at the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Grounds, ''Olympafrica Centre'', Olympic Village, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos. The objective of the programme is to provide an opportunity for the students in the Amuwo Odofin area on the importance of Sports and Education to youth development. It will also promote social interaction among the students, which will avail them the opportunity to meet other school students and engage in healthy competition. A Statement signed by Tony Nezianya, the Public Relations Officer of the NOC noted that they will also know more about the activities carried out by Commonwealth Games' Nigeria. CGN will award prizes to the three best students from each sport of the three sports to feature -- Volleyball, Netball and Cultural Dance. All participating students will receive certificates of participation. The participating schools are expected to dress in their cultural dance attires. The event promises to be vibrant as well as an entertaining experience, offering a unique opportunity to discover the variety and values of our rich multi-cultural heritage. Not less than 12 Schools in the Amuwo Odofin area will participate in the programme with 6 students and a Games' Master each from participating schools. The President of the Nigeria Olympic Committee, Habu Ahmed Gumel, supported by the Secretary-General, Mr Babatunde Popoola will declare the event open. A.
