A 23-year-old bus conductor, Femi Itabiyi, was on Thursday remanded in Kirikiri prisons, Lagos after pleading guilty to stealing a bag containing N20, 000 and other valuables.
An Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, presided by Mrs M.O Tanimola which gave the ruling, said the defendant should remain behind bars pending sentence which was reserved for June 25.
Itabiyi, a resident of Odo-Eran, Mushin, Lagos, had pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing.
Earlier, the Police Prosecutor, Insp. Aondohemba Koti, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 23, at Fatal Atere, Mushin in Lagos.
He said that the defendant stole a bag containing some valuables belonging to Mr Abiodun Ogunsola.
“The defendant stole a driver’s license, plate number, some clothes, whose value are yet to be ascertained and a cash of N20, 000,’’ he said.
Koti said that the complainant slept off inside his vehicle and placed his bag beside him.
“The complainant fell asleep in his trailer and woke up to discover that his bag had been stolen.
“The following day, the complainant saw the defendant wearing one of his clothes and carrying his stolen bag. He called the police and the defendant was arrested,” the prosecutor said.
The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos state, 2015 (Revised).
The Section attracts three years jail term for stealing.
