Erstwhile governorship candidate of Labour Party (LP) in Rivers Isaac Wonwu has pleaded with Gov. Nyesom Wike of the state to constitute the state executive council to move the state forward.

He made the appeal in a news conference on Tuesday in Port Harcourt.

He said that five months down the line Wike had yet to constitute the state executive council.

He also called on the state government to constitute a committee to develop a blue print for the infrastructural and economic development of Rivers.

“In ideal situation, the governor should be able to collaborate with any other reasonable persons that he thinks can offer reasonable service to the good people of Rivers.

“We don’t want to be seen as opposition party, we want to see ourselves as partners in developing the state.

“That is why politics is there, the ideal politicking is not to create yourself negatively or oppose the system.

“In as much as we commend the governor for embarking on building three flyovers in Port Harcourt, we cannot sit idly by and watch Rivers people to suffer,’’ Wonwu said.

According to him, state government should not be busy creating employment only for amnesty and task force but should rather transform such employment to other forms to develop the state.

“The governor should initiate proactive measures aimed at developing robust industrialisation and mechanised agricultural projects to boost food production in the state.

“He should revisit the Greater Port Harcourt City Development project with a view of de-congesting the city,’’ he said.

Wonwu urged the state government to collaborate with the Federal Government to reactivate the business activities at Onne Sea Port.

He also called on the State House of Assembly to enact a law to stop youths, communities and groups from disrupting business activities or projects in their areas.

Wonwu said that his party also expected Wike’s administration to begin the payment of N30,000 minimum wage and the restructuring of the civil service with view of making the service effective and productive.

He also called on all parties, stakeholders and other well meaning persons to join the state government in developing the state.(NAN)
