Controversies trail JAMB’s withdrawal of Mmesoma Ejikeme UTME result

THERE are mixed reactions to the withdrawal of Mmesoma Ejikeme’s UTME result on allegations of manipulation of scores by Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB.
Ejikeme, who was alleged to have scored 362 in the just concluded 2023 UTME, had already been awarded a N3-million scholarship by Innocent Chukwuma, Chairman of Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing Company and was set to be honoured by the Anambra State Government.
However, the board on Sunday, July 2, through Fabian Benjamin, Head, Public Affairs and Protocol, disclaimed the result on the grounds that it was fake even as it urged the public to always cross check claims by candidates with the Board before rushing to honour them with undeserving awards.
”It is to be noted that the candidate had sent a message to the Board’s platform to request her UTME result after which she manually inflated her scores and pasted same on the 2022 UTME result sheet.
”Unknown to her, the Board had changed the design of the 2023 UTME result sheet. Her original result remains 249 as nothing can change that,” he explained.
According to JAMB, her actual score is 249 and not 362.
It, therefore, said that the candidate would be prosecuted as the Board would investigate all candidates laying claims to higher scores than they actually obtained.
In a swift reaction, Cornel Osigwe, head corporate communications, ICM Innoson Group explained that the girl he met doesn’t have the brain and capacity to manipulate her result.
According to him, there is more to this story. A proper investigation needs to be done.
He therefore pledged that the Innoson Group will go on with an independent investigation on the issue of manipulation.
Osigwe in a post via his official Twitter handle, @cornelosigwe said that if the girl is found to have willfully manipulated her result, “We shall withdraw the scholarship, but if we observe she is innocent of the accusation, then the scholarship stands, whether she is the best or not.
“That girl was one of the most brilliant in her school, according to the Principal, her parents couldn’t even afford to pay for her WEAC and NECO Exams. Of what advantage will it offer her to manipulate her JAMB score? Let the poor breathe please,” he said.
Reacting to Osigwe, @Kadurueze wrote, “I don’t even understand this, Jamb conducted the exam, released the results, then announced the girl as the highest scorer. At what point did she manipulate the result? Did she hack Jamb server? Someone should explain to me like a 7-year-old.
Another Twitter user @abi Odun wrote: “I think this is political to dent Peter Obi’s claims of building education in Anambra. Tinubu is too desperate. Jezz
Also @Ninasteve007 said: “JAMB has to tell us what happened! How is it possible to inflate scores? Is it an insider job or systematic failure? How can a student do that? We need to know the facts, not just these speculations. I personally believe in the process of excellence, not just the results.
@invincible Uche said: “She looks too innocent for that heavy fraud. It’s a lot of money for anyone who cannot pay WAEC fee to go ahead and pay to raise JAMB scores. I really hope JAMB put a statement and apologize if this allegation is false.
According to another user @otoika: ‘How come you couldn’t scan JAMB’s QR Code that is on the result sheet? If you had scanned the code, then, you would have prevented your principal from the N3 million scam. Own up that your guard was down.
@bisimichaelng said: “Head of corporate communication speaking like a roadside courier. Pls speak like a cerebral strategic communicator representing a major brand will do. You can still salvage the situation by communicating professionally and deleting this badadash. What have you achieved with this?
@detalentedhero “The whole claim is a mess jamb is not saying the whole truth Something is not right. If she can manipulate her score, then her own was exposed because she asked 362, those that manipulated their own to 300-350 have nothing to worry about because they’re not the first.
